PSYB45H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Slot Machine, Classical Conditioning
Document Summary
Respondent behaviours: behaviours that are elicited by prior stimuli and are not affected by their consequences. Operant behaviours: behaviours that are modified by their consequences. Blushing a reflex that happens involuntary in scenarios where you might see a person you like. Dog salivating salivating involuntary waiting for food. Slot machine win reinforcement by winning (gambling is a powerful example of reinforcement). Speed limit consequences of getting a speed limit or thinking of getting one. Respondent conditioning also called classical conditioning or pavlovian conditioning. Involves unconditioned reflexes or involuntary behaviour (salivation in response to food), that becomes paired with certain stimuli. Getting a new existing behaviour to occur, to different stimuli. Learning of a new stimulus response (not including innate stimulus). Operant conditioning called instrumental conditioning, has to do with the consequences of voluntary behaviours. Unconditioned stimulus - elicits a response without prior learning or conditioning. Unconditioned response unlearned response, elicited by a unconditioned stimulus.
