Document Summary

Lec 10 developing behavioural programs and ethics. Building upon and integrating the principles and procedures already learned, to develop behavioural programs. Functional assessment - examination of the relationship between (problem) behaviour and its antecedents and consequences. Questionnaire assessment - completed by people familiar with the client, limitations of indirect assessment. Observational assessment - form hypotheses about antecedents and consequences based on direct observation. Two general categories: operant (6 sub-types) & respondent (elicited) Positive reinforcement: social - attention from others follows the behaviour. Clues: the person approaches a caregiver, and/or smiles, just prior to the behaviour. Treatment considerations: use social attention as reinforcer for alternative behaviour, reduce attention paid to problem behaviour. Positive reinforcement: self-stimulation - problem behaviour is maintained by internal self-reinforcing sensation or stimulation (automatic reinforcement) Clues: behaviour continues at a steady rate even though it has no visible effect on others or the environment.
