Document Summary
Psyb57 lecture 3 notes (finishing lecture 2 slides) fmri scanning in action: time course plots of brain activity. An adaptation of mri that looks at changes in oxygen rich blood flow. Depends on theory that the harder the brain works the more oxygen it requires. In an fmri the red area is the area activated the most and blue areas are areas activated but to a lesser degree fmri scanning in action: experimental design and the subtraction method. Pretty brain pictures may make a study appear more convincing: people are more likely to take a theory more seriously if they come with pretty brain pictures such as fmri pictures. Problem with this is these pictures mean nothing without a thoughtful, accurate method and purpose of research. Brain activation profiles are often produced by a contrast between condition (requires subtraction method)
