Intro to benevolent sexism: continued inequality among women and men. Although the situation for women has improved in some nations, the distribution of resources and power remains unequal in virtually every society around the global. Example: women were paid on average 16% lower than men: they are also underrepresented in political decision making bodies and in leadership positions. Sexism: negative attitudes, prejudice or discrimination directed toward someone on the basis of their gender. Benevolent sexism (more common: chivalrous ideology offering protection and affection to women who embrace conventional roles, it might be patronizing but as well flattering, e. g. Women have a more refined sense of culture, taste: heterosexual intimacy, the belief that women fulfill men"s romantic needs, e. g. Attitudes towards women are positive, more positive than towards men (e. g. iat: white women not treated equally, they are loved , with iats, they associate women as good and men as bad. Benevolent forms of sexism are prevalent, even among liberals.
