In line with this, researchers have found that benevolent sexism is often not described by men o(cid:396) (cid:449)o(cid:373)e(cid:374) as a(cid:374) e(cid:454)p(cid:396)essio(cid:374) of ge(cid:374)de(cid:396) dis(cid:272)(cid:396)i(cid:373)i(cid:374)atio(cid:374). Eexposure to hostile sexism may promote efforts to reduce gender-based inequality, whereas exposure to benevolent sexism undermines engagement in actions intended to increase gender equality. It can be engaged in by a single individual as long it is intended to serve group rather than individual interests. It provides a positive representation of women as a group.
