Disgust causes us to stay away from it or if you are afraid of a snake for example. They also influence our judgments and perceptions of the world: either in a +ve or ve way. The use of the word of emotions was only used in the 1570s in. France: esmotion: to set in motion, move the feelings, implies an active dynamic concept; movement and action. This concept is different from what history thought of it. Looked at it like a passive thing no control. Ancient china 5th -3rd century: developed theory: theory of the 7 emotions. Ancient mesopotamia & egypt: emotion were not portrayed on faces in the art faces =stoic. Not b/c they couldn"t draw the facial expressions, rather they showed it for animals not humans. Bad to show expression not appropriate, instead it should be showed through posture, stance, etc.
