Document Summary
Differentiating models of emotions: basic emotions. Emotions have consistent patterns of expressions that are universal: appraisal theories of emotions. Cognitive appraisal is important in producing emotion. We have drives in us but we have to interpret the stimulus. But each emotion still has a unique bio-behavioural output: constructionism. No predetermined behavioural, expressive, or bodily response that is specific to any one emotion. Appraisal : in the middle of bio and social. What do these theories say about expressions: basic emotions. Automatic processes elicit specific bodily activations then produces specific emotional expression. Automativ process detects emotion stimuli in envrionment emotion gets et off through bio behavious pathway expressed: appraisal theories of emotions. Cognitive appraisal sets off specific bodily activations = specific emotional. See snake if i am a hunter, im not scares. If i have bad experiences with expression snakes, i will be scared: constructionism. Emotions are socially & cognitively constructed, thus emotional expression does not necessarily represent any one emotion.
