Neuropathology for neuropsychologists: last week we covered the majority of chapter 7, we left off with the degenerative disorders to cover , a lot of personality disorders have cognitive disabilities that affect their adl"s. We usually can"t diagnose with cognitive tests. Except some dementia"s that we can diagnose with. Degenerative disorders these tests: differential diagnosis of dementia, https://www. youtube. com/watch?v, gradual deterioration of intellectual abilities. Step wise: stay at a certain level of functioning, then get dramatically worse, stay at that level, then get dramatically worse, stay at that level, etc. Looks like stairs/steps: harder to diagnose, i. e. vascular dementia. Slowly progressive: more linear line: i. e. alzheimer"s disease. Possible to have a patient where they decline in a step wise and slowly progressive fashion more likely to be comorbid with more than one dementia. Each dementia syndrome has a unique neuropsychological signature (strengths and weaknesses) Only at autopsy can it be definitive. To determine how to slow that specific dementia.
