Instability in relationships, identity, and affect (5+) Must fit >5 symptoms to considered bpd: preoccupation with abandonment, unstable/intense relationships, identity disturbance, self-damaging impulsivity, suicidal/self-harm behavior, affective instability due to reactivity of mood, chronic feelings of emptiness, inappropriate, intense, uncontrollable anger, paranoid ideation/dissociated symptoms. Personality disorders are not episodic, but are longstanding way of how you think, feel, act. It is how you act most of the time, but other difficulties such as depression, anxiety are states/episodic. Affects those they interact including therapist very stressful b/c high likelihood of suicides. Frequent self-harm behaviours concerned as a person and as a professional. Borderline individuals are the psychological equivalent of third-degree-burn patients. They simply have, so to speak, no emotional skin.
