PSYC39H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Tuesday Afternoon, The Crisis, Reductionism
Document Summary
Why psychology is not a natural science (but how it could be): Only 1/3 (33%) replicated tried to replicate 100 famous psych experiments in science the most important thing, is whether your results are replicable if they aren(cid:495)t, your conclusions are invalid. (cid:888)(cid:889)% didn(cid:495)t replicate: this means we must rethink what we(cid:495)re doing if the study doesn(cid:495)t replicate at a high level, we need to figure. How can we deal w why some studies don(cid:495)t replicate: when you do a psych study, you usually measure 2-4 )v(cid:495)s. This is bc, when you get more )v(cid:495)s it gets harder to interpret. You rarely see 4 variables (4-way interactions) out why: it would be a v large study, hard to interpret. These could have an affect on how ppl will perform. But, theres no psych study that looks at all of these diverse influences of the outcomes measures. If you did, you would have too many )v(cid:495)s.
