Document Summary

Modus operandi: typical way in which somebody goes about doing their crime. Signature is some specific aspect to how they commit their crime and is individualized. Staging is ritualistic arrangement of crime scene, and crime more than a statement but fulfills some sort of fantasy or deeply held desire. People whose crimes scenes are organized they tend to be obsessive, while disorganized crime scenes probably have impulsive traits and crime not well planned. Consistency of a trait across different situations is not really true. Serial murder: someone who kills two or people in separate events. Select victims not randomly, but by personal or political agenda with specific characteristics. Spree murder: somebody who is enraged and kills 3 or more people at two or more locations. May not be a meaningful category of victims. Mass murder: people kill four or more persons at a single location with no cooling off period between murders.
