Document Summary

We can measure emotion through physiology, motor behaviour and self-reports: e. g. fear = sweating, heart rate increases. Russel all emotions we experience can be plotted on a graph w/ two axes. That"s how we can account for the broad range of emotions: arousal versus pleasantness, e. g. pleasant and a little aroused = happy; unpleasant and aroused = anger. If paralysis you can still experience the emotion. Suggest that james-lange theory is incorrect despite no physiological feedback from their bodies. Physiological changes that are very similar to each other (e. g. heart rate can go up b/c you exercise or because you are in a dangerous situation). E. g. if you see something scary, you feel it right away, but physiological symptoms maybe be delayed due to how the ans is built. Maclean: limbic system came from circuit of papez modified the circuit. Not on the surface of the brain, but it is adeep lying structure.
