According to the american counselling association,(2010) counselling is: The application of mental health, psychological or human development principles, through cognitive, affective, behavioural or systemic interventions, strategies that address wellness, personal growth, or career development, as well as pathology. Counselling deals with wellness, personal growth, career, and pathological concerns. Counselling is conducted with persons who are considered to be functioning well and those who are having more serious problems. Counselling is process that may be developmental or intervening. Effort should be focused on the problem of the counselee. Steps : analysis, synthesis, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment/counseling. Advising or planning a programe of action. Assisting carrying out the plan: follow-up- Advantage of directive counseling: counselling is economical in time, emphasizes the problem, emphasizes intellectual rather than emotional aspect, methods direct , persuasive & explanatory. Limitation: does not any liability of self-analysis, over dependent kill his initiative, emotional maladjustment not better, wrong counseling, mistake in future.
