SOCA01H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Scientific Method, Stanley Milgram, Meritocracy
Document Summary
Research: research may be done to improve or have a greater degree of knowledge about a particular topic. For example, research may be done on vaccinations, in order to prevent diseases. The vast amounts of data are not considered to resolve the problem. Science can be quite limited, as it is meant to continue questioning. It is meant to not be definite, and to allow space for further inquiry. Science can often take very long in finding an answer to a question as it often ignores traditional knowledge at its own demise. It was found through studies that dogs understand more human words, than humans understand dog actions. In other words, if you work hard enough, you will succeed and be wealthy. This is an overgeneralization, and not part of scientific attempts: however, most of the wealthiest people on the planet inherited their wealth and did not have to work hard for it.
