Document Summary

Human populaion in the planet has increased throughout the years. The number of humans reached one billion in 1804 and six billion in 1999. In 2011, the world populaion reached 7 billion (p. 506) This has caused a signiicant amount of sensaionalized concern regarding a populaion explosion and subsequent catastrophes. And that is exactly the imagery some populaion analysts, or demographers, want to convey they link it to recurrent famine, brutal ethnic warfare, and other massive and seemingly intractable problems (p. Think about movies depicing future despair i. e. mad max, etc. where small groups guard resources and the largest numbers of the populace experience deprivaion. These ideas are based on concepions of inite resources and belief of inherent aggression in the face of shortages. However, they do not take into account the amount of waste in today"s society and prominent global inequiies.
