Document Summary

Structural funcionalists: more schooling will reduce educaional gap. Conlict theorists: more exposure to educaion, inequality is worse. Hard to research these conlicing views ideally, we should ind a place where schools do not exists. They should compare kids who do go to school to those who do not go to school. Compare test scores/ atainment levels you need historical data, but that data is not recorded. Nowadays, society all over the world is centered into schooling, therefore, a perfect experiment is impossible to compare test scores of those who do not go to school. Closest to a perfect experiment: comparing students who do not go to school due to summer vacaion. Studying school performance on students during summer vacaion. Conlict theory hypothesis: if school widens the learning gap b/w students of high and low status backgrounds, then the size of the gap (as measured by test scores) would increase during the school year and decrease over the summer.
