Document Summary

In aristocracy have responsibility but not sympathy across classes. In democracy there is more pity, sympathy, and compassion. Reserve: un aristocracy, there is a clear sense of ranks, there is also reserve or a kind of unspoken strategy to stay on top. Lots of movement, not the same sense of reserve. Etiquette and service: etiquette, in aristocracy, there is a clear sense of how to behave in what situation, although the rules can be complex, in democracy, the rules are less certain, so the emphasis of your actions shifts. We care more about the substance of one another. The sense of movement affects how we treat one another. Fathers & sons; gender: the way we command in aristocracy is different, distant, cold, connected to the past. Men had position of power and would bring their histories into the future. Eldest son would be given instructions about how he should rule over the family empire: age/gendered divisions.
