Weber: science can tell you about the best means for achieving purposes but can"t set a purpose that has to happen from religion, politics or art. Durkheim: was opposite from weber, social scientists can say what the goals are, but the means are for somebody else to figure out. Mead: in between position, the main thing is science in mead"s view is as a way to figure out the best way of achieving our goals. But, process can force us to reformulate and rethink those goals and transform our goals. Teleology: a way of defining what the traditional moral perspective of life is. Life is about figuring out what the most important purposes are and how we should relate ourselves to that. Your life is about to figure out what is your purpose in life and to adjust those goals. Eg. there is an earthquake, then you think what is the purpose of the earthquake.
