Selection In the past status was inherited less than 200 years ago However you cant inherit educational qualifications That population of people who owned land or factories passed that down to their children and that gained wealth Now people make their living through employment and most jobs we get need acquisition of educational qualifications You cant inherit educational qualifications so you need another way to gain high status It is though the educational system that yours and mine social status could be acquiredTwo forms of Selections 1 Selection can be within the educational system and between the schools2 Streaming y Steaming is the practice of sorting and categorizing students in their aquiline groups y In Ontario until the 1960s and early 1970s students were streamed into separate and distinct programs There would be vocational programs which would be for the lower jobs and the academic program for proper jobs y Streaming in 1960s and 70s students would be seen leaving school with distinct streaming and education y 1970s onwards over streaming mandated by the s
