Mass culture theory: expect that media is getting out information form the elite class. Oversupply of creators: lots of talented people (writers, artists, musicians) but not enough jobs for them. Relatively cheap technology: becomes possible for lots of people to create. Owners/board hires managers that hire the gatekeepers (who has potential stories) Owners/boards: elite, particular mindset, networked with one another. Gatekeepers: the people who stand the potential content and the actual publishing, person stand beside a recording artist and getting signed. Lecture 5: people in communication are creating products that do not have a material form (only words and sentences, affective labor vs emotional labor = expected that you are going to act in a particular way. Journalism you have to relate and show emotions to connect and build relationships with those they are trying to connect with. Transient, contingent: contingent workforce = don"t have a constant group of people that you are interacting with (seen as a problem)
