Document Summary
This file includes a summary of some of the most important ideas discussed in class. It is not a substitute for the lecture, but will help you, after class and with the aid of your notes and the reading assignments, to distinguish the main points of the lecture. You will also find on blackboard four questions that should help you further to understand the topic and to prepare for the examination. The concepts of reality and the real, which we explored during the previous lecture, were introduced with reference to the development of the individual from infant to adult, but they can be applied to many other areas, including religion. Religion can be understood as providing a link between reality and the real. It points beyond the ordinary reality of our lives: beyond culture and beyond society. In order to understand religion in this way, we must use the term religion more broadly than usual.
