Lecture 6- human sexual variation, medical anthropology and forensic anthropology. Just as morphological variation in humans, we have a fantastic variety of gender and sexual identities and biologies, respectively. Biological sex is a function of anatomy: Old days: external boys or external girl parts. Newer days: xy ( male) or xx (female); trisomy (xxx, xxy, xyy); pentasomy ( including xxxx, New days : all kinds of (fun) external and internal parts!! Biological sex is incredibly variable in plants and animals; do(cid:374)"t just look at ours. Unisexual species: o(cid:374)l(cid:455) (cid:862)girls(cid:863) reprodu(cid:272)i(cid:374)g through parthe(cid:374)oge(cid:374)esis (non-sperm reproduction) Observed in various insects and animal species and done in a lab for human cells. Sequential hermaphroditism: individual changes sex at some point in its life ( male> female, female> male, female> hermaphrodite) Develop into males first, and when they mature, they become females. If dominant female is removed from group, largest and most dominant male becomes a female.
