ANT204H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Environmental Determinism, Proletariat, Housing Tenure
Document Summary
Oak street was not quite a slum, but it was fairly poor. Six separate families lived in one house with only one bathroom and one source of running water. Industrialization has caused house prices to soar. More money and energy is spent on building big factories and the like than on providing adequate housing for canadian families. Destroy the oak street houses, and negative aspects of the street went away. Regent street was built in its place: family life signi cantly improved. Too many oak streets for a rich and resourceful nation. New condo owners emerged as new moral subject (type) to neutralize the stigma attached to the regent park in the process of neoliberal redevelopment built on. Social mix ideology/discourse; yet, their daily lives to enact or react to the positioning as contributes to social cohesion is still limited and contingent ( gure).
