Norms (normal ways of behaving in comparison to others) Social control - connected to norms/standards -> push you back toward the norms. Previously listed aspects -> enable us to live in society/structure. Social structure - who to depend on for certain things. Depend on kin but our society = modified (i. e. handicapped may rely on kin but is also independent) Kinship exists if it is enacted upon - have to form relations. Forms alliances between groups, not just between two people. Who will control/have rights over the women and children. Incest (taboo): controls where to find spouses. Endogamy: marry within group (neighbours, cousins, etc. ) Conjugal: household = formed around married couple. Non-conjugal: may be married but don"t form household with them (live separately) Patrilocal (husband"s parents), matrilocal (wife"s family), neolocal (live on own): which side of the family the couple lives with.
