Music gives you feelings of meaning but not images of meaning. Using language has allowed for us to survive: ex. Language = system that allows us to take the world and carry it around. There is no beter or worse language: all languages serve humans in similar ways throughout the world. They enable people to name (and thus classify) Performance of language = speech: resources for making new words and for using language in new ways. You can get the same meaning across in writen language and speech. Humans are the only species who can use vocal language. Nouns: words that name; person, place, or thing. Verbs: words that describes acions, movement, feelings. Aricles: modify the way you refer to things general or speciic puts things in relaion: ex. the, a, an, this, that. Pronouns: replace nouns and put things in a relaion of ime, space, and people: ex. the same person can be an i or a you, ex.
