Document Summary

The earth is spinning on its axis, which is not on the same plane as its orbit. The sun is higher in the sky during june/july in the northern hemisphere, but lower in the southern hemisphere: this is what causes seasons. Only half of the moon is illuminated at any one time: the phases change as the moon orbits the earth. Takes about 28 days for the moon to go around the earth once. You can never see a full moon in the daytime. You can only see a new moon during the daytime. Waxing moon: moon is visible during afternoon/evening, gets (cid:862)fuller(cid:863) a(cid:374)d rises later e(cid:448)ery day. Waning moon: moon visible in late night/morning, gets (cid:862)less full(cid:863) a(cid:374)d sets later ea(cid:272)h day. The moon rotates as it orbits, so we always see the same side of the moon from the earth: the far side of the moon can never be seen from the earth.
