Document Summary

Neo-darwinism & the evolutionary significance of genetic variation. Recombination: the shuf ing/ mixing up of genes, main way of genetic variation, because mutation is rare! Gene ow: genes from one population coming into another population! Lethal: deadly, recessive (very likely that we all have a lethal gene, but it"s not expressed as its is recessive/ overtook by the dominant, non-lethal gene) ! Deleterious: won"t kill you, but reduces your tness (your ability to reproduce and pass on genetic information)! Fruit y mutation: complex, developmental genetics! New structures actually forms, not just the genetic bases change! Example: mutation in the eld (one yellow ower appeared in the middle of many white owers)! Wild type de nition: the more common type ! What would happen to the mutant? (3 possibilities)! 2. pollinators are more attracted to the mutant, therefore takes out the white. The yellow ower becomes the new wild type. Blending inheritance (offspring will be an intermediate between its parents)!
