The concept of a changing universe replaced the view of a static world. It was a phenomenon without purpose replaced view that the causes of all phenomena had to have a purpose. There is no di erence between evolution as a scienti c idea and gravity as the purpose of gravity is to keep us on earth adaptation, bio diverstiy and spices are consequences of the process. His problem was he had a linear rather than a branching view. The other problem was his theory was based on the inheritance of acquired characters.
