Document Summary

Budding yeast - simple organism, eukaryotic cell, genetic model has a lot of the same structure as cells in our bodies: a way that we can study how cells function, robust genetic model. Researchers can study how each gene affects a cellular process because there is a model with each gene deleted. These cells grow and divide, they are used to study cancer. How do cells grow and divide and what genes contribute to the process being dis- regulated? (saccharomyces cerevisiae) we have: blood cells, alveoli cells, skin follicles, 200 specialized cell types with different shapes and functions. The nucleus is segregated from the rest of the cell by the nuclear envelope. Lysosome: the compartment of where things are broken down aka the stomach of the cell . Breaks down cellular components so amino acids can be reused this is more specific to animal cells.
