Document Summary

Essence of enzyme action and nature of enzyme reaction rate, that engine that drives all metabolic pathways. Enzymes are very much associated with flow and movement of molecules. Term kinetics comes from (cid:494)kinesis(cid:495) greek word means movement. Enzymes are dynamic almost functioning like traffic controllers facilitating the passage of cars from major intersections. Thus to study enzyme is to study their kinetics. Two scientists attempted to describe simple enzyme kinetics in simple mathematical terms. They developed michaelis kinetics based on simple enzyme interaction with substrate followed by product release. She later began famous kinetic work with the other guy. S is the sub and this reacts to form product. Simple reaction s to p, rate of reaction is amt of s that disappears per unit of time (s/min). Amt of sub that disappears is equal to the amt of p that(cid:495)s formed during the same time unit.
