Document Summary
Describe the steps in tag catabolism, mobilization, and cellular transport. Review how atp is produced via beta oxidation krebs, etc and ox. Compare the number of atps made from fatty acid chains vs. glucose. Initial response to epinephrine/glucagon is muscle/liver glycogen breakdown. Epinephrine/glucagon can also initiate fat breakdown via gpcr signalling. Adipose tissue store excess carbons as triacylglycerides (tags). Fatty acid chains can be used for atp synthesis, however this requires catabolism, mobilization and oxidation --> it"s more complicated and requires more time. Three fatty acid chains bound to a glycerol backbone. Stored in this saturated chain so that we can have close packing of chains. Store it for later - easier to break down without double bonds. Tag lipase = hormone sensitive lipase (hsl) --> active in phosphorylated state. Free fatty acids needs a carrier molecule - albumin - used to bring it where it needs to go. Glycerol can be diffused out to be used in gng.
