Document Summary

Transient attack temporary and not permanent, however, can have lasting implications. Ischemia local deficiency in blood flow: losing blood flow to his brain, not getting enough oxygen. Nat"s condition loss of speech, also known as aphasia due to injury to the language centres of the brain. Possibilities: could be bleeding in brain, or not getting enough oxygen to brain. His speech returns but is now plagued with a tingling sensation in his right arm. Nat"s risk factors: age (59 years old, stress (tse, smoking, hypertension, high bad cholesterol (ldl) Nat has a stenosis or a narrowing in his left carotid artery: carotid artery arteries supplying the brain blood. Diagnosed by a change in the sound of blood flow or by ultrasound: high pitched sound forcing more blood through that artery. The narrowing of the artery causes clots (emboli) to break off which can block blood supply to various areas of the brain, such as speech.
