Cultural hegemony in the people"s republic of china. Political power is always about who has the most force; is only sometimes secured in violence and the threat of violence. Hegemony: domination of one groups , an elite, over others. Common sense: power is not seen as arbitrary but obvious and necessary and inevitable. " if those in charge of our society politicians, corporate executives, and owners of press and television can dominate our ideas, they will be secure in their power. They will not need soldiers patrolling the streets.
