Document Summary
Group presentation: the fantasmatic body (doane, the fantasmatic body as subjective, fragmentation and unification through the voice, the disembodied voice. There is a focus on jane fonda"s voice. There are recordings of her voice (speaking to clients through the wire-tap on her phone) Monologues when she talks to her therapist. The image is manipulated to make the main character either an object or a subject. We can"t see sound, it lives in this ephemeral space. We used to only focus on editing the image, because it can be stilled and adjusted. Sound is also, by this nature, a rendering of something that was real. The woman is speaking not her voice but someone else"s. So it is rare to find a woman"s voice that is authentic. Coincides with representations of women in public life, where it is considered that they must be contained. Even though it is not always conscious, cinema is limiting the female voice and reflecting the patriarchy.
