Document Summary

Diocletian decides to split the empire into 2 main groups because you cant defend the empire if he dispatches armies with ambitious generals. Maximian rules one part, diocletian rules another part. He splits the empire up into diaceses who is ruled by a person called a vicor, who becomes something like a prime minister who rules army and political stuff. Diocletian also increases the army, it doubles in size, it could have been 500 000 but it was more like 300 000. Another big issue in the 3rd century is economic collapse. Some parts of the empire went back to a barder economy. Diocletian tires to mandate an inflation stock, where he said what needs to cost what. This law fails horribly and results in riots. He tires to make a standard currency, (cid:271)ut this does(cid:374)"t (cid:449)ork. He also (cid:373)akes it so you (cid:272)a(cid:374)t lea(cid:448)e the la(cid:374)d (cid:449)here you (cid:449)ere (cid:271)or(cid:374).
