Temple least important part of a sanctuary (nakassis: not always the case though, more like the most optional part of the sanctuary. Sanctuary (parts: altar, temenos, temple, cult image, dedications, other buildings treasuries, stoas, theatres, etc. Temenos = sacred space cut out, defined by physical marker (more like the boundary of a sanctuary; cf. , roman pomerium?) Treasuries built by different cities to stow offerings. Stoas are nice storage areas ~ cloister (walled space with one side colonnaded) 590 bc: according to pausanias, people say either zeus and hera, or just hera was worshipped there, pausanias wood and terracotta structure, later turned to stone, pausanias, in the roman period, saw in the temple: Statue of hera on throne with zeus standing beside her. Statue of the seasons, themis, athena, and other deities. Pausanias also claims he knew the names of the sculptors. Ash altar of zeus: accumulation of ashes from burnt sacrifices, monumentalized. Altar comes first, then temple comes after.
