CSB328H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 21: Hox Gene, Bilateria, Mutation
Document Summary
The homeotic/hox gene complex is conserved in animals: responsible for identification of different segments, provide diversity along the anterior/posterior axis, provides high complexity, exists in mammals. There are 4 hox genes in mammals (hoxa-d) Modified version of the gene is still there after evolution (not exactly purple anymore) Results in a1 and b1: they are paralogs. Related to each other and related to the same ancestral gene. Expression domains of hox genes in a mouse embryo: looking at hoxb. This means that in the last body domain, it is actually the blue gene that defines the identity of that region. In region 3, yellow is the most posterior expressed so the region takes on a yellow identity: prevalence of posterior hox genes. Green gene represses the red gene in the second region. In regions 3, yellow suppressed activity of green and red.
