Ex. will never say crime causes gender 3. non-spuriousness: relationship cant be explained by another variable. selection - evidence that engaging in crime can contribute to poverty. Ex. bad youth you aren"t going to university to have opportunities, long criminal record prevent from jobs. They have a sense of community and morals. anomie theory rules of behaviour become inoperative. Anomie occurs (cid:449)hen society loses control o(cid:448)er ppl"s goals and desires. parents inflict certain goals on kids: go to school, become successful, social status. 3. innovation - criminals. realize i don"t have same opportunities but i want to be successful so i will sell drugs. engage in innovation outside the law to achieve goals. 4. retreatism - given up goals and legitimate activities and engage in life of addiction (alcoholics/drug addicts) not try to achieve wealth.
