Nobody can understand policing and crime but those who have worn the badge and patrolled the streets. Police oicers have to stick together because everyone is out get us. It is impossible to ight crime efectively without bending the rules. The media and members of the public are generally unsupportive and quick to criticize the police unless they need one. The cops code: (ruess-ianni and ianni: watch out for your partner irst then the rest of the guys on your shift, don"t give up another cop (the code of silence). Be aggressive but not too eager: don"t get involved in another cop"s sector, hold up your end of the work. If you get caught of base don"t implicate another oicer. Make sure other cops in your unit know that a guy is crazy, corrupt or dangerous. Don"t trust the new guys until they prove themselves. Don"t talk too much or too little.
