Representing crime and authority lecture 4: serial killer characteristics- visionary, mission oriented, hedonistic, power control. These classifications all emerged in the development of science, a kind of muddy space. One of the characteristics of early systems of classification weren"t in the slightest bit anxious about thinking about biology: assignment: Choose a new article, not long, re-produce and hand in on paper (screenshots, not printable version) Analyze the new source, interested in what they are communicating at a deeper level, select a theme, draw how they are doing that representation, highlight other representations are allowed as well (giving a particular ideology about gender). Word and images, formatting, color choices, photographic choices, size of headline. Signifiers and what they end up signifying. Don"t use quotes from book, analysis more important. Will find metaphors in work, metonyms always doing the identifying, not completely arbitrary. Never use the word myth, about what is assumed to be wrong.
