What is a play: an art form, re ection of society, literature to be performed, anything someone calls a play, cultural expression, re ection of emotions. Drama: literary genre, form of performance. Scripted plays: playwright & performers involved (collaboration or struggle?, pretence, illusion, play . Dance, circus, clowning, cabaret, stand up comedy . Ritual, pantomime i. e. late for the train, patting pockets for keys: linguistics, performative language. Ontology- study of being, what is the essence of the play. Epistemology- study of knowledge, how do we understand the play.
