History of acting: greek masks; lightweight, easy ways to change character. We don"t have the masks still; they didn"t last through the ages. Amphitheatres etc; masks were used to amplify. A very particular technique, as well: women actors. Women appeared in medieval theatre, commedia dell"arte, spanish theatre, English restoration: actresses thought less of than actors, sort of, use of sexuality in order to appeal to audience, esp. in restoration england. (quite shockingly,) rape scenes used to show sexuality. Members of the public can just show up in the dressing rooms. Women the majority of theatre school graduates, but only a small minority of people who run theatres, write plays, etc: perception of actors: paradoxes. Seen as professional liars: not buried in certain graveyards . Actor in uenced by real feeling is a bad actor; feeling is unreliable. Tuesday, march 1, 2016: detached onlooker within the actor. Grew dissatis ed with this, noticed the harder actors worked the worse they get.
