There is no doubt that chinese films incorporates unique artistic values, culture, social practices as well as political values, we can explore the relationship between cinematic representations and real life via the observation of different films. During the analysis of chinese films, we easily address important issues that exist in contemporary chinese society such as generation gap, patriarch, homosexuality. In this essay, i will mainly analyze director ang lee"s three films, they are the wedding banquet , pushing hands , and eat drink man women respectively. These three films are known as the ang lee family trilogy and they are all his early works which mark his devotion to feature nuanced drama, to be more specific, to romantic and family drama. It is worth mentioning that the theme of family, especially the different generations within the same family, is one who characterize each ang lee"s film (dilley, 26).
