Usually originate from ovary in which 1 seed develops. Fruit which detaches from plants and disintegrates to free seeds. Fruit also eaten by animal which expels seed in droppings. Endocarp is really important because it"s really hard and stony so animals won"t eat through it and eat up seed inside. If animal does get into endocarp, peach seed within it is loaded up with cyanide so animal won"t eat it. Can see couple of carpels fused together. When fruit is immature, is loaded up with poisons (alkaloids) to prevent it from being eaten too early. Pericarp (ovary wall) is fleshy and colourful to attract animals. Exocarp: leathery rind (not as thick as pepo but still there, like an orange peel) Fleshy interior that has juice sacks that rewards animal:
