Document Summary

It was interesting to read them in a literary sense, since i studied them as historical figures. It was interesting to look at them as writers. This time, i read it less as historical fact and more as a collection of literary tropes and techniques: we can think about how genre functions in the texts. The maple sugar making is different than the description than the relationship to the son, so we see literary tropes mixed in with historical detail. In the new world, there is preference for novelty. When you are younger and physically more able, you are better able to adapt and adopt new ways of life: adaptability is praised, and the youth are singled out as being particularly adaptable. We have gestures towards the degree of upward mobility in the new. World, which provides special opportunity for the young.
