ENG280H1 Lecture : ENG280 - November 14 - Sedgwick.docx
Document Summary
Attention is directly on the text (cleanth brooks) There isn"t any discussion of the author himself but really is focused solely on the text. Wants to make an argument about the history of sexuality. In the end she"s not interested in shakespeare"s sonnet, she"s just using it to prove her point. Has another thing in mind when she"s writing: feminism at a broad thematic level. Appears to be a new critic except that she looks at the history as well, or at least also includes it to some degree in her writing. The fact that the literature had nothing to do with the world around it is what made. Sedgwick"s focus wasn"t the transcendence of the object but she uses the same method. Part of the feminist argument is that the well wrought urn needs to disappear: to subordinate yourself to trans historical things is the adhere yourself to the bias.
