Description
ENG250Y1 – LECTURE NOTES October 7, 2013: Rip Van Winkle:  There is a similarity between Franklin's autobiography and Rip Van Winkle, the omission of the Revolution  The main reason for this in RVW is that he is disoriented and slept for twenty years and during the Revolution  Pg 480: o Sees his son, an image of him o Is so disoriented because it's a new generation and a new time o Shows that change is inevitable o There is so much sameness despite all the changes, the son is exactly like him o The similarity is disabling to him o Causes anxiety o Implication is that America needs to be different from the national other in order to have an identity 
