Nuclear power: canada only receives 15% of its energy from np, there are 3 advantages of np, does not emit carbon, less damage to environment, safer for workers. 2 drawbacks of np: nuclear waste is radioactive, must be stored in unusually stable and secure locations and monitored for years. Held in nuclear power plants: accidents can be catastrophic, nuclear fusion = forcing together the small nuclei of lightweight elements under extremely high temperature and pressure, could produce mass amounts of energy from water, still a dream. Trees: trees provide three ecosystem services of value, stabilizes soil and prevent erosion, slows runoff, lessens flooding and purifies water, stores carbon and releases oxygen - mediate climate.
