Industrial revolution: invention of manufacturing led to surplus production, colonialism was key as products were brought from other places, standardization of craft. Social causes of industrial revolution: air pollution, social inequality, severe poverty. The poverty of some is necessary to keep a balance of economic development and population. Population increases faster than means of subsistence. Hunger as best limit to population increase. Capitalism: the production and accumulation of surplus value.
