But water deeper in that area so couldn"t get across: so even though the distance between the land masses is narrow, there is no migration. Shows that we need both history and ecology. Tigers have since disappeared even north of wallace"s line. A history of one species that 4 million years ago was an inocious tropical primate living in forest. But became species that expanded its range from central africa across earth. When humans first emerged, biodiversity was at a peak. At this point we have seen a tremendous loss of species. Graph: 2. 5 million years ago, something happened simultaneously: climate change. In last 2 million years massive advances of ice sheets resulting in many extinctions.
